Background
In 2018, TSMC hosted its annual Symposium at a moment when the global tech industry was turning its focus toward AI. Positioned as a key driver of this transformation, TSMC showcased its advanced semiconductor technologies as the foundation for future innovation. To bring this narrative to life, JL Design was invited to create the main presentation film, where I served as one of the designers. The project emphasized how TSMC’s breakthroughs enabled AI development across a wide range of industries.
Concept
The creative direction was framed around the idea of the “Blueprint of Future World.” As a leading foundry, TSMC serves as the foundation upon which the AI industry is built, with its chips forming the core of the modern world. The film visualized the chips as a blueprint that generates entire systems, extending into industries where AI has impact, including automotive, aerospace, and consumer electronics. This narrative emphasized TSMC’s role as both origin and catalyst in shaping the AI era.
Impact
Premiering in Santa Clara to more than 2,000 attendees, the film set the stage for TSMC’s 2018 Technology Symposium, which expanded across 12 cities worldwide. Each stop brought TSMC’s vision to new audiences, reinforcing its achievements in AI and 5G. By opening the event, the film helped deliver a strong first impression that shaped how thousands of participants perceived TSMC’s role in the industry.

Storyboard
The film opens with a wafer emitting digital signals that gradually expand into a map of the future world. Across this blue map, diverse AI applications appear, ranging from smartphones and autonomous vehicles to aerospace technologies. The sequence then zooms back to the wafer, symbolizing how TSMC, as an AI innovator, connects and serves as the foundation of the future world.
